Domain Name

In recent times I have been asked many questions related to domain name via Quora, Facebook, chats etc. In this article I would like to give a brief explanation on domain name and also discuss things that are related to domain. Please do cross verify with other websites and blogs also for detailed explanation and for correctness. 

Current era can be considered as the era of Internet. It has become mandatory for everyone to have a relationship with Internet. Either via Social networking sites or via mailing services, almost everyone has an image in Internet. Maintaining that Internet Image is very essential, as it can be easily accessed by anyone and predict the nature of projected Image. Here Image can be a Person, Business, Organization etc. As everyone is "World Citizen", it is essential to have a website or a blog for everyone to project themselves. And the domain for a website plays a crucial role. Let me explain A to Z related to domain in the following paragraphs.

Domain name is not just a name that is given to a website. It is an identity given the server or machine from which the website has been hosted. Here the Identity indicates the IP address through which the website has been hosted. Since it is not that feasible to identify a website using IP address, IP address are converted into a human understandable Domain Name. In simple, we can say that Domain name is the representation of Numeric IP address. It is possible to identify a domain name using IP address and IP address usign domain name. 

When an website name has been given by a user in the address bar (www.google.com), Machines can understand only numeric values. Domain name server (DNS) will convert the domain name into IP address and help the request to reach the exact server from which the website is hosted. 

Example : www.google.come --> Domain Name Server -->72.125.68.94

Note : Further the Decimal IP address will be converted into Binary Values as the machines can understand only binary values.

To find the IP address of a domain name type the following command in the command prompt with the Internet connection in active mode. 

C:\ ping website name

example : C:\ping www.google.com
