7 Things A Student Should Know Before Joining an Engineering College.

Few years back when I joined an Engineering college, I had no idea about the things which has to be considered before joining an Engineering. I feel this should not happen to my young friends who are aspiring to join Engineering college. Although the hands of the parents would be much higher in this issue, it is essential that the student has to analyse certain criteria before joining in an Engineering college. In this article I have shared 7 basic criteria a student has to consider before joining an Engineering College.

1. Accreditation 

It is essential that a student has to check whether the college has got Accredited and Approved  by AICTE. It is also essential that a student has to check whether the course in which they are going to study has been approved by AICTE. If your planning to join in any private university, it is essential to check the status of the university from UGC site and also check the grade of the university given by NAAC. Universities with higher grade are the universities, which has shown excellent record. It is always recommended to join in an university or a college which has proper accreditation

2. Reputation. 

As Education has become one of the hot business, accreditation is not a big deal for the college or university which has more currency with them. Hence it is better to check the reputation of the college or university with the general public, alumni of that institution, professors, professionals, friends and career counselors. Reputation of an institution can also be checked with the help of the comments posted in the Social networking sites also. Joining in an reputation institution is always better, than joining in an institution which has no reputation.  

3. Alumni 

No one else can describe the institution's quality, infrastructure and facilities better the alumni of that institution. In the era of Internet it will be an easy task to find an alumni of the institution in which your planning to join. I always recommend a student to approach more than one alumni to a get clear idea about the institution. 

4. Placement and Placement Training

Almost 90% of students joining in Engineering will be looking for a job after the completion of the course. I always recommend a student to check the placement record of an institution and the training which is being conducted by the Placement cell. I strongly advice my dear young friends to check whether the institution has got an active placement cell and placement officers. It is always recommend to join an institution which bring company to the campus for the recruitment. There are institutions which produce false information regarding the placement, contacting alumni for such details will better.

5. Department. 

I always recommend students to check the activities that is being carried by the department. In the current scenario, in order to get offer from the industry it is essential that a student has to posses various Industry oriented skills(Kindly check in the Internet for the skills required). Check whether the departments provides ample of opportunity for you to enhance those industry oriented skills. Contacting the alumni of the particular department will give you more information regarding the activities of the department. 

6. Infrastructure 

My dear young friends this is one of the important criteria you need to check before joining an institution. Infrastructure doesn't mean the "buildings" built by the college. Infrastructure generally indicates the facilities that are  available inside the building. Kindly check the lab facilities, Internet connectivity, Library facility(In the Rarest case, you will be pulled inside library), Food, Canteen, Banking facilities, Bus Facility, Postal facilities,  Hostel facility. In order to know about the quality of the food provided in the canteen or in hostel, kindly ask the students who are availing that, than asking anyone else. 

7. Academics / Rules

The main goal of joining an institution is to get quality education from that particular institution. Hence I request the students to check the rules and regulations of the institution, Academic system followed(In case of deemed university), Faculty strength and qualifications. To have a clear idea about all these things, Kindly approach alumni of that particular institution.
