Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence are two hot and major research area, which is predicted to be the game changer for the next 5-10 years in all the domains. Almost many confuse Machine Learning, Data Mining and Artificial Intelligence. Let me try to give a simple definition for all the 3 concepts.

Machine learning is the process of generating algorithms to solve the real time problems. Algorithms are generated based upon the process called "Learning". In other words, Machine learning is the practice of giving training to generate rules and algorithms to solve the real time problems. Machine learning is one of the AI technique, where the machines are trained to behave as like Human beings. 

Types of Machine Learning:

1) Supervised Learning - Result of the experiment is known

2) Unsupervised Learning - Result of the experiment is not known

3) Reinforcement Learning - Decision Making based upon previous experience

Data mining is the application of Machine Learning algorithms on the data which has been collected from various resources. Data mining will enable us to analyse data and will help us to arrive some meaningful information from the data to which the Machine learning algorithm is applied.

From Software Engineer Perspective:

Machine Learning : Training the Software or System and automating the repeated task which has less human intervention. 

Data Mining : Understanding the requirement and apply the machine learning algorithms upon the data.
